The best thing about the Berkey water filter is that it looks really nice. Otherwise it is just a standard “carbon block” filter. These might be a little bit better than your standard Brita filters, with some caveats. Standard filters like Brita filters are just granulated carbon. Carbon blocks filters like the Berkey filter has take that same granulated carbon and grind it up and then glue in back together. This creates more surface area for water to come in contact with and filter your water. It also introduces glue into the mix which has some toxicity of its own. Therefore I see it as a bit of a trade off.
